Today I spent the morning with a friend of a friend who has now become my friend. Lauren is a CTS alumni who is living in Nairobi. She fell in love with Kenya when she did a YAV year here after college. Then she came back for a year-long internship during her CTS career. After spending 5 years as an Associate Pastor in NJ, she has returned Kenya and has been here for about 2 years. Lauren is currently a lecturer at one of the local universities and she also works in one of the Masai schools to try and prevent child marriages by providing education for young women (yes, that’s still a thing in some tribes).
Grabbing coffee together was exactly what I needed today. For the first time, I had a conversation with someone who actually understands how I feel in this culture. We swapped stories and she helped me understand the PCEA in a new way. What a blessing it was! Also, I was able to drink real coffee (not instant powder coffee) for the first time since I got here.

I spent the early afternoon doing paperwork from home and then went to the church with Evangelist Steven. He was teaching a catechism class for a new member and in it he discussed prayer and cults (yes, it was quite the interesting combination). He sent me the teaching manual so if anyone is interested in reading up on the PCEA let me know and I'll be happy to share! This evening we went to tea at Rev. Marian's house. She is the PC(USA) Mission Co-worker turned PCEA Minister from Pittsburgh (mentioned in previous posts). We spent a lot of time discussing the weather and her upcoming trip to the U.S. Pastor George shared a message and then we came back home. Then this evening I am going to video chat with my counselor from Decatur. Thank goodness for technology! ~ Nell in Nairobi PS: The monkeys made an appearance on the back porch this morning.
